Citroën recently launched their new C3 on the international market, and it seems that the French manufacturer has moved the latest incarnation of a successful hatchback more upmarket.

1.) The new Citroën C3 is expected to be available in South Africa in February/March 2010 with the choice of four models, powered by three petrol engines - two 1,4s and a 1,6-litre.

2.) The new added curves of the C3 along with the chrome accents help put this model up a class or two over the model it replaces, Citroen describes the look as "more dynamic, with more incisive, flowing and aerodynamic styling and lines".

3.) At the front of the new C3 is a large air intake that Citroen describes as looking "...looks ready to gobble up the miles".

4.) Taking some cues from its DS3 sibling, the interior of the new C3 features flowing lines, a "floating" visor on the instrument cluster, and Citroën claims that it "...brings customers the highest levels in comfort and prestige".

5.) The new Zenith windscreen is the biggest news about the C3. It has a length of 1 350 mm, and increases the front passenger's upward field vision of 80 degrees by removing the upper beam. This is all for "... a non-stop panoramic view on the world".

6.) Controls and functions are laid out in an easy to find and use manner, and according to Citroën, the interior "... boasts top-quality, premium materials including a thermo-coated dashboard enhanced by a satin grey or glossy brushed aluminium strip".

7.) With the sculpted steering wheel and the wheel's recentred, driver-focused controls, along with other features inside the cabin, Citroën has tried to create a "... harmony of flowing lines and aerodynamics".

8.) For the ease of city driving, Citroën has kept the dimensions of theC3 to under 4 000 mm. It measures 3 940 mm in length, 1 730 mm in width, and is 1 520 mm high. Boot space is claimed to be 300 dm3.

9. ) Citroën believes that "The road manners of the new C3 are perfectly adapted to the nature of the vehicle and in line with the Marque's customary characteristics, reflected in the continued priority of safety and a considerable gain in driving pleasure, together with consummate comfort"

10.) Safety features in the new C3 include ABS with EBD and brake assist, as well Isofx mountings for the safety of the tots.

Read the January 2010 issue of CAR for more details on the new C3.
