The third generation Mégane will soon be available in Coupe-Cabriolet bodystyle as Renault prepares for its international debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, just before it goes on sale in European markets for the northern hemisphere spring.
Gifted design traits that make the new Mégane so distinguishable, like the unique front end with feline sweeps, and softer curves at the rear, the CC builds on that with a large glass roof finished in gloss black and satin-effect windscreen frame. The profile features a rising waistline that ends on the darkened tail lamps that feature LED brake lights.
The two-part glass roof boasts a glazed transparent area Renault claims is the largest in its segment, which allows the cabin to be lit by more natural light and at the same time creates the sense of increased space within. With "outstanding acoustic and thermal comfort," the electro-hydraulic automatic roof opens and closes in 21 seconds.
Unique to the Mégane Coupe-Cabriolet is a fixed-glass wind deflector located behind the rear seat head restraints for draft-free driving up to 90 km/h, and when used with the removable mesh deflector screen behind the front seats allows the front occupants to travel without wind buffeting at any speed.
The engine line-up at launch comprises of six units, which consists of the 1,6 16v, 2,0 16v and turbocharged TCe 1,4 petrol powerplants, as well as the dCi 110, dCi 130 and dCi 160 turbodiesel engines.
All engines are mated with manual six-speed gearboxes, except the the 110 dCi, which can be equipped with Renault's new EDC dual-clutch transmission for lower CO2 emissions and optimum fuel consumption, as well as benefits for the driver such as fast, smooth shifts and instant response.
The interior employs materials of high quality for elegance and refinement, enhanced by three trim choices; dark charcoal, light beige and red two-tone finish with leather seats. The "floating" facia is identical to the unit used in the Mégane hatchback, while the door trim is specific to the CC.
The features list includes hands-free starting and locking via a key-card, automatic electric parking brake, automatic dual-zone climate control, directional bi-xenon headlamps, Arkamys 3D audio system with USB and auxiliary input, and built-in Carminat TomTom sat-nav system.
Safety equipment includes structural deformation designed to minimise damage to the cabin in the event of a rollover, automatic deployment of rollover hoops, seatbelt pretensioners and belt-force limiters, adaptive front airbags, dual volume head/thorax/pelvis lateral airbags, side impact sensors and Isofix childseat anchorage. Driver aids include ABS with EBD, emergency brake assist and ESC with understeer control.
Renault South Africa has confirmed that the new Mégane Coupe-Cabriolet will be launched locally in the third quarter of this year. CARmag.co.za will announce engine line-ups and prices closer to the launch date.
