Nissan's Qashqai range has been spiced up with three new limited edition n-tec models. And entry-level 1,6-litre, and a 2,0-litre Acenta model with or without a full-length panoramic roof, a first time for the Qashqai range.

The 1,6-litre Acenta gains brushed-metal roof rails and 18-inch alloys - up from 16-inch items. In fact, all three models boast the two-tone alloys along with chrome finishes to the fog lamps, side bar and door handles. Interior treatment is bolstered by black leather with red stitching upholstery on all n-tec models.

The Qashqai range boasts a five-star Euro-NCAP safety rating, and features Isofix child-seat anchoring points as standard-fit in addition to a full complement of the Nissan’s advanced airbags (driver, passenger and curtain) system. Active safety aids include disc brakes front and rear featuring ABS, EBD and Brake Assist, as well as a full VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) stability management system on the 2,0-litre petrol and diesel derivatives.

Only 648 units spread across the three variants will be available for SA buyers.

The 1,6-litre Acenta n-tec costs R259 900, an increase of R7 000 but adds R12 000 worth of extra equipment if purchased individually.

The 2,0-litre Acenta N-TEC costs R293 900, an increase of R4 700 more but offers R8000 worth of additional equipment. The version with the glass roof adds enhancements to the value of R18 000 for a R10 700 premium; list price: R299 900.

All three n-tec special edition models therefore add substantially more value to the vehicle for comparatively modest pricing adjustments, and the Qashqai continues to provide an attractive alternative to established hatchback options competing head to head on pricing despite offering significantly more “car” for your money.

Explains Johan Kleynhans, Nissan SA director of sales, marketing and aftersales: “Although perhaps limited edition models like the new n-tec are not normally associated with value, we’ve positioned the new vehicles carefully to make sure that customers actually get a lot more than what they’re paying for. The n-tec is actually more competitive than ever, incorporating a great selection of the most popular options as well as some completely unique, stand-out elements for an aggressively shaved price premium – in fact it works out to a discount over the standard model!”
