Was in the employ of Caltex Oil for 14 years and spent a year overseas on various product development projects and assignments in Australia, USA and UK. Held the position of Manager Technical Sales SA.Owned and operated a group of major Zenex Oil retail fuel service stations, including convenience stores, workshops and car washes, in the North of Johannesburg for 16 years.
Having sold the company in 1999, I joined the Motor Industries’ Federation (MIF) in that same year as National Director of the Fuel Association and became CEO of the Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI) in 2001 – the National Body representing the retail motor industry in South Africa, with regional offices in all provinces of the country and employing in excess of 90 people.
Military service: 30 years with the Technical Services Corps (TSC) in the ACF (Active Citizen Force) where I attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel as Officer Commanding a Citizen Force Brigade Field Workshop (31Fld 72Bde) with a strength of 2200 personnel. Presently serving in the SA Army Support Services (part time) in technical capacity with the rank of full Colonel.
Presently Head of Gumtree Automotive SA for the last 3 years focusing on the launch of the new Gumtree ZA vertical. My hobbies include horse riding, scuba diving and restoring classic cars (presently have 16 in my collection) Happily married to my wife of 10 years, Marcia. We have a 7 year old daughter, Storm.
