WITH the Jaguar’s return date now fast approaching, it recently asked for some attention when its service indicator light illuminated at just under 21 000 km. Usually when a car is booked in for a service there is a list of small issues to hand over to the service agent, but in the Jaguar’s case, there was absolutely nothing. The car has been running flawlessly since the day of its arrival.
Upon phoning the service centre (Jaguar Cape Town), I was however dismayed to find out that I would have to wait for the best part of two weeks for a service opening to become available! This is not really convenient, as evidenced by the fact that I could not take the car in myself. Technical Editor Nicol Louw handled this job, and had the following to report…
The check-in procedure on the day itself was painless enough. The hand-over was quick and friendly and the waiting area suitably upper class. Unfortunately there was no coffee, which not only disappointed Nicol and our photographer, but also a posh British couple also in attendance. To make matters worse, the vehicle used for the drop-off service was a rather tired Volkswagen Caddy. Now, it needs to be reiterated that the actual service was quick and efficient. In our opinion, however, Jaguar needs to make sure that the service “experience” is as premium as their cars. Some work to do, then.
Since then, the Jaguar has slotted back into its daily home-to-office routine as the last few kilometres are added to the odo. Soon it will be time to head to one of the Sanparks for a photo feature, before being returned. I will be leaving CAR at the same time as the Jaguar. Probably just as well, I will miss it!
