Our long-term JMC Boarding double cab has left the building. But it will be back!
JMC South Africa has offered to fit a tow bar and a canopy to the Boarding. With the vehicle being silver, we’re holding thumbs that the canopy will match. We also hope that the attractive standard roll-over bars will be able to be accommodated inside the canopy and not need to be removed.
While away, our Boarding will also receive its first oil change – at only 3 000 km. This is early on in any vehicles life but it’s not altogether a bad idea as slight rough edges on all the sliding metal surfaces in a new engine tend to bed in over the first few thousand kilometers, hopefully getting trapped in the oil filter, but not always. An oil and filter change early on in the vehicle’s life will sort this out nicely. The JMC needs servicing every 10 000 km after this initial refreshing of the oily bits.
Once returned, we can start deciding what tasks we can assign to either the towbar and/or the newly covered load bay. Having already taken the vehicle on a tough off-road course we were suitably impressed with its climbing ability, although the lack of a rear diff-lock did hold us up for a while on a steep and rocky section. After a few attempts and a fair dose of momentum, we got through the section.
