FAW used the Johannesburg Motor Show to showcase its new passenger vehicles.
The V2 hatchback was the highlight of the stand. This vehicle will be the volume-seller for the company when it’s officially launched in South Africa. We will be the first right-hand-drive export market to get the V2 and FAW claims that its introduction “follows a six-month local test and evaluation programme to ensure its suitability for local conditions”.
The V2 is powered by a 1,3-litre, four-cylinder petrol that develops 67 kW of power at 6 000 r/min and 120 N.m of torque at 4 400 r/min. This unit is mated with a five-speed manual gearbox.
Standard features include air conditioning, electric windows all around, an MP3-compatible audio system, electrically-adjustable side mirrors, remote central locking, four-way adjustable driver’s seat, driver and passenger air bags, ABS brakes with EBD, headlamp leveling and front and rear fog lamps. All of this for R99 995,
Other FAW models at JIMS include the five-seater X80 SUV with a 2,3-litre petrol engine developing 118 kW at 6 500r/min and 207 N.m of torque at 4 000 r/min. It is mated with a six-speed automatic that sends drive to the front wheels.
Also on display is the FAW V80 minibus and Sirius.
