It’s time to say goodbye to the 1958 DKW 3=6 that formed part of CAR’s 60th year birthday celebrations in 2017. The epic road trip from Mokopane to Cape Town (some 1 700 km) was covered in the February 2017 issue of CAR magazine and you can watch the video here. And now is your chance to own a bit of CAR automotive history.
#HopeForMiaCara
Rather than simply selling the DKW, CAR will be donating the money from the sale to charity and has identified a worthy cause called Hope for Mia Cara. This six-year-old South African girl was diagnosed with leukaemia more than two years ago and is still fighting for her life. At the moment, she is in Philadelphia in the United States to undergo a ground-breaking treatment known as T-cell therapy as a last chance of survival. The chemo protocol locally was unable to eliminate the cancer cells in her body. This is an extremely costly treatment and any donations are welcome. Please view the following video and visit the Facebook site for the latest updates.
Bidding on the DKW
CAR wants the DKW to go to a classic car enthusiast who will appreciate the vehicle and can take care of it properly in the years to come. Therefore, if you’re interested, send your bid and a short motivation to this mailbox ([email protected], with “DKW” in the subject field), explaining why you should be the new owner of the 3=6. Each entry will be evaluated and if the motivation satisfies the CAR team (as the judges, the CAR team’s decision will be final), and the bid is the highest to date, it will be updated in this post as the current leading bid. The DKW will go to the highest successful bid lodged on or before the Wednesday 28 February. The new owner will be contacted to make arrangements for the payment, collection and paperwork afterwards.
Condition
Body: it’s in neat rather than concourse condition. No rust or missing trim.
Mechanicals: 100% working order. Last year this car drove 1 700 km down from Mokopane to Cape Town without missing a beat.
