From The Archives: Honda Prelude EX

South Africa did not get the first generation Honda Prelude, but its successor rolled out worldwide in 1983. CAR tested the range-topping EX model for the July 1984 issue.

The Prelude, with its graceful coupe lines and feature-laden cabin, defied the general perception of the time that Honda’s vehicles were mostly compact and budget-friendly vehicles. It was powered by a 1,8-litre four-cylinder engine fed by twin Keihin carburettors that produced 78 kW at 5 500 r/min and 155 N.m of torque at 4 000 r/min.
