With rotary engined Mazdas no longer available in South Africa, the Japanese manufacturer was short of a halo model. Based on the 626, the sleek MX-6 was just the ticket – and was tested for the June 1993 issue.
Powered by a 2,5-litre V6 that produced 121 kW at 5 600 r/min and 217 N.m of torque at 4 800 r/min. The outputs were sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox and resulted in a 0-100 km/h sprint of 8,22 seconds and top speed of 214 km/h.
