An American car dealership has been fined for selling seven cars in one month to a senior citizen suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

According to The Sun, the Hillsboro Chrysler Plymouth Jeep Warehouse in Portland, Oregon, agreed to give 78-year-old James Rickards his money back and compensate him R780 000. To aggravate matters, Rikards cannot even drive. The dealer also had to pay R240 000 into a Justice Department consumer protection fund.

"Families dealing with ageing parents have enough challenges without having unscrupulous sales people prey on their loved ones," attorney general Hardy Myers said.

Dealership manager Kevin Chimienti said his sales team did not know Rickards had bought so many cars. "We weren’t aware we had sold him seven cars, as he dealt with different people," he said.
