Not a long trip this time but with some hill climbing involved. With friends having booked a good braai spot on Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve, the Thule roof box was put to use again with braai grids, wood, blankets and play things for the kids and cool boxes for food and drinks. The road to the top is longer than I remembered when the Paarl Nouveau wine festivals used to held there after the first wines of the new year were bottled around April each year (what happened to them?). The potholes are quite bad so a cross-over vehicle with decent ground clearance fared better than some of the small hatchbacks also tackling the route. The flowers and birdlife are quite stunning in the reserve and the views over Paarl spectacular. Definitely a spot to re-visit.
