October 2013

October is a big month for cars. And as you can tell by the extra thick magazine you’re holding, a big month for CAR too. Apart from some very tasty new automobiles our team will be driving overseas – BMW X5, Infiniti Q50, Aston Martin Vanquish Volante, and Merc S 63 AMG to list a few – October also sees a host of new cars unveiled right here in South Africa.

The Johannesburg International Motorshow (JIMS) will be opening its doors to the public from 18 to 27 October, and the 200 000+ car fans expected to pour through will get within touching distance of production and concept cars never before seen in this country. Held every two years, JIMS is the biggest event of its kind in Africa and, once again, NASREC’s exhibition halls will host the world’s major motoring brands. (see www.jhbmotorshow.co.za)

As always, CAR magazine will have its own stand at JIMS (please drop by and say hi), but if you’re not able to make it, keep an eye on our website where we’ll be showing the new cars as the manufacturers lift off the covers.

CAR Road Test Special

As alluded to earlier, you’re holding an October issue that’s weightier than the usual version of your favourite motoring mag. The reason for this is the 72-page CAR Road Test Special that comes free with this issue. As JIMS attests, the SA motoring industry remains healthy and new models and derivatives are launched every month. While we get to test most, we don’t always have the space to print them all. Until now. Turn to page 128 and you’ll find 24 bonus road tests on vehicles currently listed in South Africa.
