This is cool! Finnish magazine Tekniikan Maailma spent a weekend with the Ahonen Racing top-fuel drag-racing team at Alastro Circuit in Southern Finland. Armed with high-speed cameras and a clear eye for the dramatic, the editorial team set about creating a video storybook of what goes into making each blast down the drag strip possible. From the packing of the parachute to the management of fluids, the crew prepares the car for action. And then the fun begins. Captured in superb ultra-slow motion, we get to see both the driver’s reaction time to the staging lights turning green, the wriggle of the Goodyear tyres as they struggle for grip, the flexing of the car’s body, and even the firing sequence (thanks to the flames from the exhaust pipes) of the nitro-powered V8’s cylinders as the throttle is opened.
After the drama we get to watch as the crew sets about rebuilding the engine in preparation for the next high-speed run.
