In case you missed it, Petter Solberg made a rather dramatic exit from the Rallye de France this past weekend.
While Sebastien Loeb went on to win the event (and in doing so secure his ninth consecutive world title) Solberg’s luck ran out on stage 9 when he misjudged a corner and veered off into a neighbouring vineyard. In an effort to maintain momentum and rejoin the road, the fiesty Norwegian kept his foot planted and did some early-season harvesting before having his progress halted by a telegraph pole. Even scarier than the on-board images, however, is helicopter footage of the accident that shows just how lucky spectators standing among the vines were to escape unharmed. Watch as the falling pole nearly crushes an onlooker before sparks fly as the cables are severed.
