South African single-seat racer Jayde Kruger will be looking to add his name to the history books this weekend by clinching the 2014 Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain. After months of wheel-to-wheel racing Jayde Kruger and Harrison Scott share the championship lead on equal points heading into the final three races.
Twenty-six-year-old Kruger drew level on points with Scott last month at Silverstone when he collected his 12th race victory of the season for the JTR team. Kruger’s habit of winning two races out of three on a race weekend – he has done so six times this year – means that the local lad has the momentum over his chief rival but he isn’t taking anything for granted.
“It’s all to play for at Brands and we’ll see what happens,” he said. “I think we have the fastest car in the field and we have loads of confidence; we just need to finish all three races in front of Harrison… We need to work on our pace to try to find a little more: we may have the fastest car but it can always be made to go faster.”
Only one other South African, Trevor van Rooyen in 1977, has managed to scoop this prestigious title which was also won by famous names such as Ayrton Senna, Eddie Irvine, Betrand Gachot and Jenson Button.
It’s highly likely that the championship battle will go down to the wire on Sunday afternoon, and we wish him the best of luck.
