One of our favourite Formula One drivers of the moment is Kimi Räikkönen. Not only is the Finn blessed with a turn of speed that several CAR members would sell their souls for to have, but his off-track reputation make every television interview with Kimi a much-anticipated event.
At this last weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix, Räikkönen was on track (pun completely intended) for his 23rd successive point scoring performance, that is until McLaren’s Sergio Perez made an ambitious overtaking attempt at the chicane after the tunnel. The failed pass resulted in a rear puncture for the Lotus and Kimi had to return to the pits for fresh rubber.
Räikkönen dropped to 16th place, six positions outside the point-scoring zone. Unperturbed, Kimi charged through the field to gain six positions in the remaining seven laps. You can see parts of his great comeback in the video below.
In a post race interview Räikkönen was asked about Perez’s passing “manoeuvre” and reportedly said: “Maybe someone should punch him in the face.”
Who says you can’t overtake in Monaco…
