While you watch this incredible footage of Memo Gidley in his Daytona Prototype making contact with the rear of Matteo Malucelli’s Ferrari 458 Italia at this weekend’s Rolex 24 race keep in mind that, by some miracle, both racers survived to tell the tale.
Three hours into the 24-hour race at the famous Daytona track, Gidley was exiting turn 3 and attempting to lap a slower competitor. Little did he know that up-ahead Malucelli, experiencing mechanical problems in his no.62 458 Italia, was making slow progress on his way back to the pits.
Track side rescue workers needed 30-minutes to safely remove both drivers from their cockpits before each was taken to hospital.
