The Toyota Dealer Rally takes in nine stages in the Bronkhorstspruit area on Friday and finishes at the Rally Star Academy near Bapsfontein on Saturday after a further seven stages and some 200 km of dirt stage rallying.
Team manager Evan Hutchison and co-driver Greg Gericke have impressed in their first season of rallying together and have shown that they will be a teasm to respect in next year’s championship. Hutchison is the reigning national off road champion in the specvial vehicle category and has juggled his duties driving the awesome class A Motorite BAT V8 in the Absa Off Road Car Championship with his latest challenge of mixing it with the stars of stage racing.
“It’s been a big challenge,” said Hutchison. “It’s not only about driving what really is a modified road car (in his case an ex-factory Toyota RunX) at high speed on loose-surfaced gravel roads, but it’s also about teaming successfully with a co-driver who tells you how fast or slow to drive and when to turn. It takes time to get used to not making your own judgement about how fast to crest a rise or take a corner. Greg has taught me a lot this season and we now have an excellent working relationship.
