Johannesburg natives Jeffrey Kruger and his sister Robyn, who’s a guest driver in the VW Polo R Cup series (held in India), put on a fine performance this weekend when they dominated race 1 of the season finale at the Buddh International Circuit in New Delhi.
Regular 2013 competitor Jeffrey started on pole with Robyn second on the grid, and despite her having a better start and running side-by-side with him into the first corner, he managed to stay ahead and pulled into the distance. Championship contender and Mumbai-based Rahil Noorani tried to put the pressure on the female Kruger but she, too, stuck to her guns and over the course of eight laps opened up a three second gap on Noorani, while her brother went on the win by a massive 12,267 seconds.
Noorani went on to clinch the 2013 VW Polo R Cup India title after another podium finish later on in the day, and also wins a seat for the 2014 JK single-seater championship as well as a guest drive at the 2014 Volkswagen Scirocco R Cup.
Jeffrey Kruger was announced the Star of Volkswagen Polo R Cup 2013 and has been offered a guest drive at the Volkswagen Golf R Cup 2014 in Europe.
“It was a great race with my sister and I am happy to have come out in front,” said Kruger. “Going into the first corner we were side-by-side but I managed to stay ahead. After that I kept pushing lap after lap and managed to build a good lead. I am very happy to win again as I love driving on this circuit.”
“The car has been perfect all weekend so I would like to thank the entire Volkswagen team for giving me this opportunity,” Kruger added.
