Given a few small tweaks to current Formula One rules, this is what Scuderia Ferrari would build… meet the Ferrari F1 Concept.
Created by their Centro Stile Ferrari design studio, this striking rendering is their vision for the future of what F1 car design could look like. Their brief, says the design team, was to “come up with an F1 car which not only is technologically advanced but also captivating to the eye and aggressive-looking. Could this be made without having to overturn the current technical rules? At Ferrari, we believe so.”
Standout features are a twin-deck front wing and bodywork sculpted around all four wheels. Those wheels are also a nod to the 18” Pirelli tyres tested last July by Lotus. They have the same width as the 13” tyres currently stipulated by F1 regs, but their diameter is 30mm larger. According to the Italian tyre manufacturer, they would pursue the idea if there is agreement from “the teams, promoter and other stakeholders” to do so.
Back to the Ferrari concept though, their design team went on to say that “Minimal changes give the car a look that is way different from what have been familiar with so far. Our challenge was to create something that was – to put it short – better looking.”
I think we can all agree that that certainly ticked that box.
