Volkswagen has showcased two advanced sets of technologies at its technical presentation in Wolfsburg, Germany.
The first is a 200 kW 2,0-litre turbodiesel (TDI) engine based on the EA288 unit but featuring electric turbocharging, a new variable valve timing system and a 2 500-bar common-rail direct injection system. The maximum torque figure was not officially disclosed but it was said to expect more than 600 N.m – impressive for a 2,0-litre.
The other is a new 10-speed, dual-clutch transmission (DSG) that could be coupled to a wide range of Volkswagen engines.
Both the above technologies will play a vital role to lower CO2 emissions while providing the performance customers expect according to Volkswagen.
The introduction date for the above technologies is set for 2016.
