Having lifted the wraps off the all-new Lexus IS at the recent Detroit Motor Show, Lexus has divulged the model range of its BMW 3 Series/Mercedes C-Class-fighter.
The initial model line-up will comprise three variants; a brace of petrols in the IS 250 and IS 350, along with an IS 300h hybrid model. All of these models will be offered with the firm’s F Sport package that ushers in cosmetic and minor mechanical changes.
The IS 250 is powered by a 2,5-litre V6 developing 154 kW and 253 N.m and mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The IS 350 features a 3,5-litre V6 developing 233 kW and 378 N.m of torque. This unit is mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The 8-speed unit incorporates a manual mode and rev matching ‘ on the downshift. It also incorporates a new Drive Mode system with four settings (Eco, Normal, Sport/Sport S and Sport S+ on certain models).
The IS 300h utilizes a 2,5-litre direct-injection Atkinson cycle petrol unit supplemented by an electric motor. This unit develops 130 kW and 215 N.m of torque while returning an average fuel consumption of less than 4,3 L/100 km.
All models are rear-wheel driven and suspended on a double-wishbone front/multilink rear suspension setup that can be specified with an adaptive damper system.
Stylistically, the new IS lifts a number of cues from the LF-CC, with the now-signature spindle grille and L-shaped LED daytime running lights among the highlights. The F Sport package ushers in a more aggressive front-end treatment, model specific tuning of the electric power steering and suspension, as well as sports seats and a number of sport-oriented interior adornments.
The new models expanded dimensions (10 mm wider and a 70 mm longer wheelbase) free up additional space (around 85 mm more kneeroom than the outgoing model) in a cabin that Lexus claims to have endowed with a sportier driving position and high-grade finishes.
Lexus will finalise the local model line-up closer to its introduction in or around June this year.
