Rumours are doing the rounds that Ferrari is developing a Spider version of its 458 Speciale, the hardcore version of its 458 range.
A news source claiming to have ‘inside sources’ at Maranello, confirmed that Ferrari has given the go-ahead for this new convertible. So far Ferrari has made no official comment on the matter.
Ferrari’s Technical Director, Roberto Fideli, said of the possibility of an open-roof variant of the Speciale:
“I don’t think we will build a Spider version of the 458 Speciale, but ask me again in one-to-two years.”
If Fideli is to be believed, there will be no Spider in the foreseeable future. However, when asked about turbocharged Ferrari’s, he said: “We are developing a turbocharged V8 engine, but I don’t know when it will be ready to put in our cars,” only for Ferrari to release images of a turbocharged California T one month later.
Ferrari is expected to debut a successor to its 458 imminently and most reports suggests that the successor will feature a revised 458 chassis and a turbo V8.
To herald the arrival of the new 458, it might just be a good idea for Ferrari to forgo its arrival with a Speciale Spider…
