Peugeot has announced a substantial package of updates to its line-up of 207 models, including a fresh new look, an extended service plan and a more powerful 1,4-litre engine.By Gareth Dean
The restyle brings in a substantially revised grille, with detail changes dependent on individual models. The fog lights, where applicable, have also been repositioned. Urban and Active models (replacing the previous XL, XR+ and XS designations) feature a larger, more pronounced grille finished in pure black. The grille of the Dynamic model is highlighted in chrome, with chrome surrounds for the fog lights. Distinguishing the 207 GTi and CC Sport 2 models is a gunmetal grey grille with a glossy black centre bar, while the fog light recesses are more pronounced.
The rear design features new, high-tech tail lights incorporating 15 LED within the cluster, while new ‘Hobart’ and ‘Brisbane’ 15-inch steel rims are offered on the Urban and Active models, respectively. A set of ‘Canberra’ 15-inch alloys adorn the Dynamic’s wheel arches, while the GTi and CC are fitted with 17-inch ‘Melbourne’ alloys.
The cabin features a number of new touches, including new trim materials and a more intuitive air-conditioning control panel. A gearshift indicator is also offered, along with one-touch indicators and locking. Dynamic models are fitted with ESP as standard, as well as a USB port and Bluetooth connectivity, while the CC also receives a tyre pressure monitor.
The entry-level 207 Urban 1,4 is available in both three-door and five-door versions, and is equipped with a 1 360 cc four-cylinder engine developing 54 kW at 5 400 r/min and 118 N.m at 3 300 r/min. Drive is to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. The 207 1,4 Urban sprints from 0-100 km/h in 14,4 sec, and achieves a top speed of 167 km/h.
New to the range is the 207 Active 1.4 VTT engine. This 1 397 cc four-cylinder unit features variable valve timing and produces 70 kW at 6 000 r/min, and 136 N.m at 4 000 r/min. The zero to 100 km/h sprint takes 11,5 seconds on the way to a 185 km/h top speed.
The 207 Dynamic 1.6 VTi employs a 1 598 cc four-cylinder engine, also fitted with variable valve timing and lift. Maximum outputs are 88 kW at 6 000 r/min and 160 N.m at 4 250 r/min. The 207 Dynamic 1.6 VTi gets from rest to 100 km/h in 9,6 seconds, while top speed is 190 km/h.
The sole diesel model in the 207 range is the 1,6 HDI FAP, with a maximum output of 80 kW at 4 000 r/min, and a torque maximum of 240 to 260 N.m (on overboost) at just 1 750 r/min. This model completes the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 10,1 seconds, and attains a top speed of 193 km/h. At the same time, the combined-cycle fuel consumption is a claimed 4,5 litres/100 km, while the CO2 emissions rating comes to 120 g/km.
The latest CC model is powered by a turbocharged 1 598 cc four-cylinder engine rated at 110 kW of maximum power at 5 800 r/min, together with a torque peak of 240 N.m at 1 400 r/min. This unit propels the CC from 0-100 km/h in 8,6 seconds and on to a 210 km/h top speed.
Finally, the 207 GTi is powered by a turbocharged 1 598 cc four-cylinder engine developing 128 kW at 6 000 r/min and 240 N.m of torque from 1 600 r/min. The 0-100 km/h run is dispatched in a 7,1 seconds, and the top speed is 220 km/h.
The new Peugeot 207 range officially goes on sale at the end of September, with the Urban three-door and the Active the first of the revised line-up to reach local showrooms. The full complement of new 207 models will be available from mid-October.
