Volkswagen has upgraded the 2,0-litre bi-turbodiesel engine in its range-topping Amarok double cab pick-up to produce a peak output of 132 kW and adjusted its clutch pedal to ensure smoother pullaways.
The Amarok DC 2,0 BiTDI engine has been tuned to develop 132 kW – 12 kW up on the engine’s previous output. The peak torque remains the same 400 N.m between 1 500-2 250 r/min while fuel consumption stands at 7,9L/100 km for the 4×2 model and 8,0L/100 km for the all-wheel drive 4Motion variants. Volkswagen claims a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 10,3 seconds and a top speed of 183 km/h for the all-wheel drive model, while the 4×2 completes the same run in 10,6 seconds and has a top speed of 184 km/h.
This engine continues to be offered alongside the two other powerplants on the Amaraok DC line-up; the 4-cylinder TDI (90 kW/340 N.m) and the sole petrol engine – the 2,0 TSI, which develops 118 kW and 300 N.m of torque. In all cases, the powerplants in the Amarok DC are coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox.
The Amarok DC comes in a choice of two specification lines; Trendline and Highline. Trendline features include height-adjustable front seats, foldable rear bench, lockable glove box and load bed lighting, colour-coded exterior trim, lockable tailgate, electric windows and side mirrors, central locking, 4-speaker audio system, semi-automatic climate control, cruise-control system, 16-inch alloy wheels and front foglamps.
Highline adds chrome trim accents both in and outside the vehicle, 17-inch alloy wheels, full climate control and 6-speaker audio system.
