Gas supplier Afrox has signed a deal with Toyota South Africa to supply the Prospecton-based manufacturer with 500 tons of propane every month for the next five years.
According to , the gas will be used in the curing of paint for Toyota’s entire vehicle range and Afrox has installed two bulk tanks at Toyota’s production plant to facilitate supply.
A senior buyer at Toyota SA’s raw materials division, Maxine Grobler, said Afrox had beaten five other companies through a tender process, but did not disclose the value of the deal.
“We wanted to find a company that could produce propane in the Durban region so as to reduce transport costs,” she said.
The report said that Toyota SA had already bought 517 762 kg of propane in the last month.
