Peugeot’s 208 XY concept has received the production go-ahead and will become the range-topping model in the line-up shortly after its Paris Motor Show debut.
The XY will only be available in a three-door hatch body style, but it will receive a number of model-specific touches to lift it above its lesser-specced peers. The most noticeable of these is a body kit similar to that of the recently revealed Peugeot 208 GTi – complete with track-spacers, flared wheel arches and brushed aluminium trim elements. This model also receives LED daytime running lights and model-specific 17-inch diamond-Anthra Mercure multi-spoke alloy. The pictured ‘Purple Night’ paint scheme will be one of six model-specific hues in which the 208 XY will be offered.
In keeping with its halo status, the 208 XY’s interior treatments include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, heated bucket seats trimmed in Alcantara/cloth (leather is optional) with exterior colour-coded stitching for the gear knob and steering wheel, as well as aluminum pedal boots and XY-branded carpets. This model can also be had with an automated parking system that scans and then manoeuvres the car into a suitable parking bay. Among the other optional extras are dual-zone climate control and a panaoramic glass roof.
As with many European cars of its ilk, the XY is designed to be highly customisable, allowing owners to individualise their cars. To this end, Peugeot offers an array of decorative extras; including exterior decals, key fobs and interior trim accents.
The 208 range will be launched locally within the next month, but Peugeot SA has confirmed that the XY will not be joining the local line-up.
