Audi’s executive twins, the A6 and A7 Sportback, have undergone a midlife refresh and now boast styling revisions as well as new powerplants.
Among the cosmetic updates to the Audi A6 are revisions to the grille, the headlights, air inlets, bumpers, side sills, rear lights and tailpipes. Audi optionally offers headlights with LED technology or Matrix LED technology, combined with dynamic turn signals.
Similarly, the A7 boasts changes to the front grille, bumpers, tailpipes and headlights. LED technology is now standard and Matrix LED headlights are also available as an option. Combined with the Matrix LED headlights, dynamic turn signals are also installed at the front; they come standard at the rear.
Audi is now offering a new entry-level model to the A6 range. This car is powered by the firm’s 1,8-litre direct injection turbocharged engine that develops 140 kW/320 N.m. At the time of launch this engine along with the S6 (331 kW) will be the only options on offer.
At a later stage buyers can chose between two turbodiesels a 2,0 TDI (140 kW) as well as a 3,0 TDI (160 kW/400 N.m) or a 2,0T (185 kW).
Along with the updates Audi took the opportunity to trim the A7 Sportback range. There are now just four derivatives on offer, two turbopetrols and two turbodiesels. There is no longer a front-wheel drive option as all models feature the firm’s quattro all-wheel drive system.
As expected, both ranges are laden with standard equipment and offer a range of further customisation options. There is a wide range of driver assistance systems available, including adaptive cruise control with stop & go function. Audi side assist, which uses radar sensors to check blindspots when changing lanes, works closely together with Audi active lane assist, which prevents unintended lane changes. The night vision assistant now includes even more functions, with the Audi pre sense basic safety system available as an option. Customers are also able to specify the Audi A6 with a head-up display system.
