Audi has refreshed its R8 range for 2013. Both Coupe and Spyder models have received a number of styling updates, a new transmission system and a new flagship model.
On the styling front, the 2012 R8 gets redesigned LED head- and taillamps. The new-look front end features a single-frame grille painted in high-gloss black, while the new bumper features air inlets bearing three crossbars each.
The R-tronic transmission system is no more and now the 316 kW 4,2 FSI engine can be mated with Audi’s seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission. This helps propel the R8 4,2 FSI coupe from zero to 100 km/h in 4,3 seconds and on to a top speed of 300 km/h. A six-speed manual is still available.
The V10 model pushes out 530 N.m of torque, but if this is not enough, there is a new flagship model that you may be interested in – the R8 V10 Plus (available only as a coupe). With 404 kW and 540 N.m, the V10 Plus is capable of reaching 100 km/h from standstill in 3,5 seconds (S-tronic transmission). This model features a front splitter (optional on other R8 models) and, like the R8 GT, it makes use of carbon fibre reinforced plastic in its construction.
Audi’s local arm has confirmed that the facelifted R8 line-up, including the R8 V10 Plus model, will reach our market in the first quarter of 2013.
