Audi has launched its fastest open top car, the R8 5,0 V10 FSI Spyder, on the local market.
Since the launch of the Audi R8 Coupé in 2007, this striking mid-engined sports car has enjoyed great success in many markets, including our own.
The Coupé range was expanded in 2009 to include a 386 kW V10 engine to complement the existing V8 model, and now a V10-engined Spyder model has made its way here with a choice of manual or R tronic sequential transmissions.
The R8 Spyder V10 is powered by the same V10 engine as in the Coupé. Power output is rated at 386 kW at 8 000 r/min and torque peak of 530 N.m at 6 500 r/min. Power is channelled to all four corners via Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system. Audi claims a 0-100 km/h time of 4,1 seconds and a top speed of 313 km/h for the manual model.
The Spyder’s fabric hood resides beneath a carbon-fibre lid featuring aluminium vents and can open and closed in 19 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h via a one-touch function. An electrically retractable and heated rear window can be retracted even with the hood closed.
Among the Spyders key features are: full LED headlamps, Bluetooth cell phone preparation with 3 microphones integrated into the seat belt for driver and front passenger as well as a microphone in the roof lining, MMI Plus Navigation System, Reverse parking camera, 19-inch alloy wheels, Bang & Olufsen sound system, Heated seats and Nappa leather seat trim.
