Volkswagen sales and marketing’s general manager Bill Stephens said winning the Namibia award was further proof that diesel-powered passenger cars were making inroads into Southern Africa.
“The Namibia Car of the Year trophy is further proof of the major realignment of local attitudes towards the character and viability of diesel-powered passenger cars since the launch of the much-lauded TDI engine in Southern Africa 18 months ago,” said Stephens.
“Winning this accolade is certainly a highlight for Volkswagen and justifies our original decision to bring the latest diesel technology to this market,” he said.
The competition was held in Otjiwarongo, 250km north of Windhoek, for the first time.
