[BMW News] BMW has lifted the wraps off its 2014 5 Series line-up. The new BMW 5 Series saloon and GT will go on sale in South Africa from October 2013.
If you take a closer look, you will notice that there are minor exterior tweaks such as revised lower air intakes, a reworked rear apron, redesigned taillamps and a new rear-end on the GT. Xenon adaptive headlamps and side indicator lights come as standard. Inside, you will find added chrome highlights and additional cup holders. The options list is lengthy, but all the ticking of boxes can be avoided by opting instead for one of the packages – Luxury Line, Modern Line and M Sport.
The big news for the 2014 5 Series line-up is the introduction of the 518d as the entry-level diesel available on the saloon and Touring. This four-cylinder oil-sipping 5 Series utilises BMW’s TwinPower Turbo technology and pushes out 105 kW, while recording an average fuel consumption of 4,5 litres/100 km and emitting 119 g/km of CO2. The saloon and Touring line-ups now also include the 520d xDrive. The top-of-the-range engine is a new 4,4-litre V8 unit that develops 330 kW. BMW SA will confirm closer to launch which engine variants will be offered here.
