Mercedes-Benz was only supposed to pull the bandages off its facelifted C63 AMG model at the Geneva Motor Show in about a month’s time. Some insider, however, could not wait and leaked these images that were probably shot for the official press pack.
The biggest change takes place at the front. The C63’s new headlamps (as is the case with the newly facelifted C-Class) ape the design used on the SL, with intricate detailing within the head-lamp housings. The LED daylight running lamps (DRLs) have been neatly integrated into the bumper and a blacked out centre section highlights the large air intake. New 18-inch wheels fill the wheel arches and supposedly hide a new braking system. These changes apply to both saloon and station wagon models.
Power is still supplied by the 6,2-litre V8 engine that churns out 336 kW and a neck-straining 600 N.m of torque. The transmission, however, has been updated. The torque converter between the 7-speed automatic transmission and the engine has been done away with in favour of multiple clutch plates, similar to the configuration used in the SL63 and E63. Like those two other AMG models, this new coupling system should come with a Race Start (read: launch control) function that allows for quick take-offs.
No details of any interior changes have yet surfaced.
