At CAR we are inundated with e-mails from readers who are keen to break into the world of automotive design. Unfortunately that dream isn’t easily realised in SA. We have tried our best to give young talent a chance through our Design-a-Car competition, but here’s a chance for budding Callums, Schreyers and Gandinis to compete on a world stage. Toyota South Africa Motors is hosting the 9th annual Toyota Dream Car Art Contest, which runs until 16 March 2015.
The contest was conceived by Toyota President and CEO Mr Akio Toyoda, who wanted to create a platform to teach children to use the power of dreams and imagination and to stimulate their interest in cars. Mr Toyoda remains the chief judge of this competition, despite his demanding global schedule.
“The Dream Car Art Contest is a platform for Toyota to engage with the children in South Africa and around the world through both a National and International Contest. It also allows us to showcase South African talent to the rest of the world. We are excited to see what this year hold for the competition and we encourage South African children to enter. No dream is too small for us,” said Glenn Crompton, Vice President for Marketing at Toyota South Africa Motors.
Contestants compete in three age brackets: under 8 years old, 8 to 11 years old and 12 to 15 years old. The top five contestants win prizes on a national level and the top three are subsequently entered into the international competition which is judged in Japan with Akio Toyoda.
This year’s theme is “Your Dream Car”. All contestants are encouraged to showcase their imagination and draw the car of their dreams. The car could fly, clean, dive and even save lives, no dream is too small for this competition. The competition will be judged by a panel which includes the Toyota South Africa’s creative team and creative directors from Johannesburg Advertising Agency, FCB.
Entry forms will also be delivered to selected schools across the country. In addition, all information including the poster, entry form, questionnaire and the Terms and Conditions of the competition as well as the list of schools can be found on the Toyota website at www.toyota.co.za.
