Porsche will launch their next-generation, new aluminium-bodied Panamera in late 2016 reports Autocar UK. The car will include a range of weight-saving measures as well as a new range of V6 and V8 engines. It’s not clear exactly what it will look like and the images you see here are some of the speculative renderings currently doing the rounds on the web.
These are the key facts relating to the 2016 Porsche Panamera :
:: It’s based on their new MSB platform that will include rear-drive and all-wheel-drive.
:: Like the 991 series 911, the chassis will have six different weight-saving material types – including magnesium, multi-phase steels and aluminium skin panels.
:: It will have a slightly longer wheelbase and smaller front and rear overhangs than the current model. Overall dimensions will be roughly the same though.
:: It will look better. The current generation’s design polarised opinion but expect the new car to be influenced more by the 911’s stying. That should include the haunches over the rear wheel arches, as well as a more raked front windscreen.
:: As well as new petrol V6 and V8 engines, there will also be a diesel V6 and a hybrid.
:: Porsche is also rumoured to be working on a new range of PDK a dual-clutch auto and manual transmissions.
:: A two-door Panamera family is on the table, including two-door coupé and convertible versions.
The next three years are going to be a busy time for Porsche with a new Cayenne (to be based on the same architecture as Audi’s new Q7) due as well. The German autobrand has stated that they are aiming at producing 200 000 vehicles a year by 2018, and that includes the launch of a new model each year until then.
