The Nissan Micra has been given a substantial makeover that places a greater emphasis on material quality as well as a host of exterior revisions.
While the Micra has been a supermini staple for some years, its current recent iteration saw much its predecessor’s visual impact make way for a more globally digestible (generic) look and an interior that saw it uncomfortably wearing the “budget car” moniker.
Speaking with a local Nissan representative, we’ve learned that the facelifted Nissan Micra is due to arrive on the local market by mid 2014.
The facelifted model aims to break that association, especially when it comes to the interior appointments. While Nissan has paid particular attention to the quality of the cabin materials (read different seat fabrics and more textured, higher-grade plastics) the most noticeable change regards the replacement of the current car’s circular rotary air vents with more easily adjustable rectangular items.
European-spec cars will also be offered with an optional NissanConnect system incorporating multimedia overseen by a Google search module and a 5,8-inch touchscreen interface. At present, there aren’t any plans to offer this system on the local market.
Externally, the split grille has is an all-new item featuring Nissan’s now-signature chrome “V” garnish, as are the bonnet, bumper foglamp surrounds and headlamps. The rear features LED brakelamp elements and a revised bumper.
At this early stage it’s not yet possible to ascertain what the local specification will entail, but it’s believed that there will be more standard features across the range.
Similarly, the engine and transmission line-up has yet to be divulged, but it’s unlikely to change dramatically from the current local offering. This would mean 1,2- and 1,5-litre petrol units coupled with manual transmissions.
We’ll keep you posted as to any further information.
