There has been a lot of movement and re-positioning in the highly competitive A-segment. The latest to follow this trend is Fiat with its 500 Lounge.
The manufacturer now offers a 1,4 manual in Lounge spec level – at only R5 000 more than the outgoing Pop model, but with an added specification. Standard features that weren’t on the Pop include a leather gear lever, Blue&Me technology for hands-free functionality and USB capability, leather steering wheel with satellite controls, an electric sun roof, front fog lamps, stability control and hill assist. Standard features across the range include remote central locking, electric windows, air-conditioning, an MP3 compatable audio system, ABS with EBD, seven airbags, Isofix anchorages and more.
The 1,4-litre unit that powers the 500 Lounge has an output of 73 kW at 6 000 r/min and 131 N.m of torque at 4 250 r/min. This is mated with a six-speed manual transmission. Fiat claims a fuel consumption figure of 8,2 litres/100 km and 149 g/km of CO2.
The Lounge has a recommended retail price of R165 480 and comes with Fiat’s standard five-year/90 000 km service plan. It also has a three-year warranty and a 12-month AA Fleetcare roadside assistance.
