Three months ago, we reported that McLaren is working on a track-focused version of its P1 hypercar. Now this image has been released by McLaren of what one of the most expensive new cars could look like.
As expected, the McLaren P1 GTR will be even more powerful than standard 676 kW McLaren P1. With an increase of 62 kW, performance will clearly be higher, while the car will also be lighter. As the picture suggests, there will be a strong focus on improved aerodynamics which will lead to better downforce. The price tag for one of the ultimate production cars will be £1,98 million (R35 million at the current exchange rate).
Unfortunately you can’t simply do an EFT to become an owner. You have to be a current P1 owner to even have the choice of buying one these cars. If you do, a new experience awaits as McLaren will organise international track days for P1 GTR owners and you will also have access to some of the company’s Formula One simulators and fitness instructors.
The P1 GTR design concept will be shown at 18:00 on 16 August at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. McLaren has also confirmed that production of the P1 GTR will start in 2015 when the 375th, and fiinal, P1 road car has been built.
It seems the battle between Ferrari and McLaren for the ultimate hypercar is continuing as Ferrari is also working on a more-focused version of its LaFerrari hypercar.
