It has been a while since Renault has offered a saloon in the C-segment, but the Fluence has arrived to fill this gaps in the company’s local model line-up.
For now two 16-valve petrol engines will be available, in a 1,6-litre and in a 2,0-litre capacity. The 1,6-litre model will be come in two derivatives, Expression and Dynamique. This engine delivers 81 kW and 156 N.m serving up claimed performance figures of 0-100 km/h in 11,7 seconds and a top speed of 185 km/h. According to Renault it will only consume 6,5 litres/100 km.
The more powerful 2,0-litre model, which will only be offered in the top-spec Privilége guise, delivers 105 kW and 195 N.m of torque. Interestingly, this is the first engine that was jointly developed by Nissan and Renault. It is connected to a six-speed manual gearbox that helps the car to 100 km/h in 10,4 seconds and a top speed of 195 km/h. Fuel consumption is said to be 7,8 litres per 100 km.
Even the entry-level Expression gets a fairly high level of safety equipment. This includes six airbags, ABS with EBD and EBA as well as ISOFIX for the outer-rear seats. Luxury and entertainment features not only include the radio/CD-player, but also the integrated TomTom navigation system that we have already experienced in other Renault products.
The Dynamique model offers leather trim and Bluetooth connectivity with a plug-in for music players. The top of the range Privilége offers, amongst other things, one-touch electric windows and reverse parking sensors. The most notable difference is that it will only be this model that offers ESP.
Included in the pricing is Renault’s Confiance plan. With these three cars it means a 5 year/150 000 km mechanical warranty and a 5 year/100 000 km service plan. Service intervals are every 15 000 km.
