It’s a hat trick of wins for Ford as the company scoops International Engine of the Year with its 1,0-litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine for the third year in a row.
We first sampled this powerplant in the Ford Fiesta 1,0 EcoBoost Trend in March last year, and were immediately impressed with the little turbocharged, direct-injection unit’s ability to punch above its weight. Clearly the judges at Engine of the Year continue to be impressed with this little unit as it awarded it 351 points.
Ferrari’s 4,5-litre V8 and Volkswagen’s 1,4 TSI took second and third place, respectively, while the Mercedes-Benz AMG 2,0-litre turbo and Tesla’s full-electric powertrain round out the top five.
