[Ford News] Blue Oval fans will have another hot hatch to lust after as Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has just launched the all-new Fiesta ST. Based on the highly-acclaimed current-generation model, this range-topper is the quickest and most power Fiesta ST model to date.
Sportier looks
External differentiation includes headlamps that incorporate LED day-time running-lamp technology and a full ST body kit which comprises a unique honeycomb treatment for the trapezoidal grille and rear diffuser element. The whole package rides on model-specific alloys and the ride height has been lowered by 15 mm. New paint options include Race Red, Molten Orange and Spirit Blue.
Inside there are Recaro seats and a new Sound Symposer that channels the engine note to interior. The cabin also features alloy-metal pedals and gearshifter, and an ST steering wheel. The Fiesta ST also makes use of Sync and MyKey technology available in other models in the Fiesta line-up.
Performance
Developed by Ford Team RS, the European arm of Ford Motor Company’s Global Performance Vehicle group, the new Fiesta ST boasts a 1,6-litre EcoBoost petrol engine that delivers 134 kW and 240 N.m of maximum torque. Power is delivered to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission – the only option. Ford claims a 0-100 km/h in 6,9 seconds and a top speed of 220 km/h. It also quotes a combined cycle fuel consumption of 5,9 l/100 km and a resultant 138 g/km CO2.
Enhanced Torque Vectoring Control (eTVC) applies brake force to the inside front wheel of the Fiesta ST when cornering to improve road holding and reduce understeer. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) offers full system intervention, wide-slip mode with limited intervention and full ESC de-activation for the brave/skilled drivers out there.
The Fiesta ST is available with a four-year/120 000km warranty and four-year/60 000 km service plan as well as three years of roadside assistance and a five-year corrosion warranty, both of which are available with unlimited mileage. Service intervals are staggered at 20 000 km.
The list price is a very competitive R254 500.
Look out for a driving impression from the launch event later this week.
