Ford aims to add stop/start technology to its entire model range. This fuel-saving feature would be available on 70 per cent of the company’s range by 2017.
According to Ford, the technology will improve fuel economy by around 3,5 per cent, depending on the driver’s driving style, of course. In heavy traffic, the fuel-saving advantage of this feature could be as much as 10 per cent.
“Simply put, Auto Start-Stop helps customers use less fuel, which is an important component of Ford’s Blueprint for Sustainability,” Ford’s global powertrain vice president, Bob Fascetti, said.
The new technology should phase in as new or updated models hit the markets. The 2014 Ford Fiesta, with the three-cylinder EcoBoost engine, is the latest recipient of this technology.
