CAR Magazine has 100 double tickets to give away to rounds 11 and 12 of the Bridgestone SA Production Car championship, which will take place this Saturday, July 5, at Kyalami.
The battle for supremacy in Class A is a four-man affair heading into this weekend’s racing. Anthony Taylor (Afrox BMW 330i) is the provisional points leader, but he is closely challenged by Michael Stephen (Engen Xtreme Audi A4 3,2 quattro), Johan Fourie (Indy Oil Audi) and Shaun Watson-Smith (Engen Xtreme Audi).
However, top honours will not necessarily go to BMW or Audi… Sasol Nissan 350Z pilots Leeroy Poulter and Tschops Sipuka, Melvill Priest (MiKar Lenovo Audi), Tubular Tech Nissan 350Z drivers Darryn Lobb and Marco da Cunha will also bid for podium finishes and the efforts of Subaru Impreza STi racer Dawie Olivier, scheduled to tackle the rest of the season’s inland meetings, will also be watched with great interest.
Tin-top veterans Graeme Nathan (SEAT Leon Cupra) and Iain Pepper (PG Glass VW Golf GTI) currently top the points ladder in Class T. However, the Focus STs of Gary Formato and Shaun Duminy have been quick at most circuits this season, and should the Ford Racing team sort out its recent technical problems, the Blue Oval could emerge victorious. Phillip Kekana (SEAT Leon Cupra), Lee Thompson (Azoic VW Polo GTI) and Mark Silverwood (Afrox MINI Cooper S) are also potential race winners in the highly-competitive class for force-inducted petrol-engined cars.
Eagerly followed will be the progress of two Opel Astra OPC entries, run in Webcom colours by Gary van Heerden and Reghard Roets. Driven by Van Heerden, Opel’s fastest local production model has been on the pace from its very first appearance, and the team will be hoping to score its first race victory at Kyalami. MFC Mazda3 MPS drivers Etienne Prinsloo and Heinz Bose, meanwhile, will hope to improve on their disappointing early-season performances…
Not to be left out of the equation will be Graham Donker (Mini Maxi VW Golf GTI), Curt Alchin (Real Africa VW Golf GTI), Michael van Rooyen (RSC VW Golf GTI), Peet Visagie (Time Mining VW Golf GTI) and Andre’ van der Merwe (ACC Air Renault Megane Sport). Mark Carver (Vacation Investment GTI) will be making his Class T debut.
Ben Morgenrood (Agip Mazda RX8 will start as a clear favourite for top honours in Class B.
His closest competition should be Danie van Niekerk (Stanger Ford Fiesta ST), Kosie Swanepoel (Barnett’s Toyota RunX RSi) and Shaun Pike (TOSCO racing Toyota RSi).
