The restyle sees the current car’s weird ovoid headlamps and understated grille make way for a more contemporary design that includes a bolder grille and rectangular headlamps with ‘teardrop’ detail similar to those of the current M-Class SUV. The front can be further individualised with optional bi-xenon headlamps and daytime running LED lights.
Other changes include a revised front bumper and bonnet up front, while the rear features trapezoidal exhaust tips and mildly restyled brakelamps with LED detailing.
The cabin remains pretty much untouched, but a new selection of trim colours is available alongside an AMG interior package that features sports seats finished in Nappa leather, an AMG steering wheel and stainless steel pedal boots. The specifications list also gets a shot in the arm courtesy of such safety features as Blind Spot Assist and Neck-Pro.
Mercedes has not yet divulged the full engine line up, but expect the company’s 3,5-litre petrol V6 (200 kW and 349 N.m of torque) and 3,0-litre V6 turbodiesel (157 kW and 542 N.m of torque) to feature in the new car.
More details will emerge when the car makes its official debut at the New York Auto Show towards the end of the week.
