Green fuel lines

By: Nicol Louw

A green fuel line sounds like a paradox but, in the case of a new product from Barricade, it rings true. Hydrocarbon permeation through fuel lines is a big concern for the authorities. The California Air Resource Board (CARB) stipulates the maximum permeation rates for fuel lines; Barricade exceeds those standards and performs better than any other fuel line in the market (according to the company’s press release).

In addition to fuel permeation, modern fuels place more pressure on fuel-line construction and materials due to the wide range of fuel formulations approved for automotive use (more than 40 different fuel blends are approved by the EPA for the American market). Some fuel blends have the potential to aggressively degrade a lesser fuel-line product, leading to small, degraded particles blocking injectors and other fuel-supply components, resulting in decreased engine ef ciency.
