Hannes Oosthuizen has resigned as editor of CAR magazine to take up the role of brand and product-development manager at GWM. Hannes will officially leave CAR at the end of May to immediately start in this new role.
“I’ve monitored GWM’s local performance with great interest from its arrival on the scene in 2007,” said Hannes, “and I believe it’s a brand with a great future. Being the editor of CAR magazine was a life-long ambition, and making this career change into the motor industry is not a decision I made lightly. However, I believe GWM is putting the correct resources in place in South Africa and abroad and, with a big focus on research and development, the future generation of products will raise many a local eyebrow. GWM has already convinced me that it’s a brand that’s going places. Now it’s my job to convince the public. I’m thrilled and honoured to be a part of this exciting and challenging journey.”
GWM South Africa Chairman, Tony Pinfold, has stated that the company is looking forward to having Hannes and his vast knowledge of the South African motor industry as part of the GMW South Africa team and that it shows “further evidence of an on-going commitment to the South African market and that GWM will continue with its promise to offer affordable, quality vehicles.”
Hannes has been at CAR for 12 years. He started as a staff writer in 2001 before being promoted to associate editor a year and a half later. He became deputy editor in 2006 and finally, in 2010, editor of the magazine. He has become a big part of the CAR team and will be missed. CAR wishes him all the best with his future endeavours.
