Reports have emerged to suggest that Nissan's Hi-cross concept will form the design basis for the next-generation Qashqai, while Renault's next Koleos may no longer use X-Trail underpinnings.
The report from AutoExpress claims that the next-generation Nissan Qashqai will lift a number of styling cues from the Hi-Cross concept that the company showed off at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. The new model will be offered in a choice of 5-seater and 7-seater body styles that will adhere closely to the dimensions of the existing models. The big changes will take place on the inside, where Nissan will reportedly pay a great deal of attention to the cabin quality.
A number of the current Qashqai’s engines will be carried across to the new model and will reportedly be joined by a new turbocharged 1,2-litre petrol unit developing 99 kW. Expect the new Qashqai to emerge in March 2013.
In related news, Renault will dispense with the Nissan X-Trail underpinnings for its next-generation Koleos. The new car will reportedly utilise the underpinnings from the Megane, measure 4,5 metres in length and will be launched in early 2014.
