Honda South Africa, which only last year celebrated its tenth birthday, will now become known as Honda Motor Southern Africa after it was announced this week that the company has expanded its commercial operations and will start selling products in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
The products to be sold in the SADC region include all Honda passenger cars, motorcycles, power products and marine models. This expansion also means that the region, including countries such as Mauritius, Tanzania, Zambia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Angola, Seychelles, Malawi and Uganda, will act as a regional hub for Honda Motor Japan – with a dedicated export division for the SADC region being set up by the Japanese manufacturer.
Honda South Africa started operating from Kyalami, South Africa in 2000, and since then the company has grown from strength to strength collecting many awards and accolades such as numerous JD Power product quality and customer satisfaction awards and two South African Car of the Year titles.
“We are honoured and delighted in the confidence expressed by our parent company, Honda Motor Japan, in our SA-based Honda operation. These are both exciting and challenging times for our brand, and being able to include the SADC states in our field of operations opens new opportunities for Honda, and for the brand as a whole, says Yoshiaki Nakamura, managing director of Honda Motor Southern Africa.
“We are looking forward to extending our operations into the SADC markets, and to deliver the same levels of excellence as our SA customer base has already become accustomed to.”
