Honda SA has announced the addition of a new 1,6-litre turbodiesel model to its Civic range to supplement the lone 2,2 i-DTEC hatchback.
The Honda Civic 1,6 i-DTEC is powered by a 1,6-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel developing 88 kW and a respectable 300 N.m of torque. According to Honda, this unit returns a combined fuel consumption figure of 4,1 L/100 km and CO2 emissions of 109 g/km.
The engine forms part of Honda’s “Earth Dreams” philosophy; a strategy that focuses on more efficient and environmentally friendly motoring technology. In the case of the 1,6 i-DTEC this entails such features as an engine weighing 47 kg less than the existing 2,2-litre turbodiesel, slight aerodynamic tweaks, high pressure fuel injection and measures to reduce mechanical friction by 40 per cent over the aforementioned larger powerplant. In addition, this model’s six-speed manual transmission is a lightweight, all-new ‘box that is 7 kg lighter than that of the 2,2-litre model.
This model will be offered in Executive trim, which includes such features as; heated leather seats, auto lights and wipers and a reverse parking camera.
The Honda Civic 1,6 i-DTEC retails for R299 900 and comes with a 3 year/100 000 km warranty, one year’s AA roadside assistance and a five year/90 000 km service plan with service intervals of 15 000 km.
